EVENTS
2008 – Lillydale Lake Twilight Concert
One of the biggest events for the Music Department in 2008 was the Lillydale Lake Twilight Concert. The evening was held Friday 18 April and was once again a great success. Mother Nature smiled on our students with a glorious afternoon and this was matched by some fantastic music being performed by all of the ensembles.
There was a very large team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for the event, to man the many stalls, ensure proceedings ran smoothly and of course, to pack-up.
2008 – Junior Concert Bands and Intermediate Concert Band Rehearsal Camp
6-8 August saw the 3-day Rehearsal Camp for all Junior and Intermediate Band students held at Candlebark Farm, Healesville. During the intensive 3 days, students rehearsed not only in their normal ensemble but also combined with other students in smaller ensembles. There was also time for non-musical fun with one highlight being a 500m Flying Fox. The final concert was a most enjoyable celebration of the students’ efforts. Many thanks to the parents who attended the concert and also to the teachers who worked tirelessly throughout the three days, especially Miss Meara for once again so ably aiding the Music Program. |
2008 – Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Workshops & Master Classes
On Tuesday 2 September, four members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra visited LHC to provide master classes, demonstrations and workshops. This was a unique opportunity for students to learn and be inspired from those who are masters on their instrument. Students from the Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands were also involved in rehearsals followed by a performance involving the MSO musicians.

2008 – Senior Concert Band and Senior Stage Band Mildura Tour
October 13-17 saw two ensembles, the Senior Concert Band and the Stage Band, embark on a 5-day tour of Mildura and surrounds. This much anticipated event featured students performing and participating in workshops at both primary and secondary schools, entertaining residents at an Elderly Citizens home, performing in the Mildura Mall and at the Mildura Show. The Senior Stage Band even entertained the locals with a jazz gig in the café district.
Our impact was so pronounced that we made it onto the local television news and had an article featuring our Music Program in the local newspaper, the Sunraysia Daily.

A fun time was had by all; some of the social activities included a paddle steamer ride, tenpin bowling and a visit to the local cinema.

2008 – End of Year Showcase featuring Jordan Murray
Thursday 23 October saw a series of workshops with professional trombonist Jordan Murray (from 'Dancing With the Stars' 7 TV) followed by the End-of-Year Showcase.
All students and staff are to be congratulated on the way they worked during the day and for the high quality of music that was on display at the very entertaining concert. The evening was a great demonstration of how much the ensembles have progressed in 2008 with there being too many highlights to mention. Many thanks to the wonderful family, friends and staff who continue to support the music students and the LHC Music Program.
