ENSEMBLES
Senior Concert Band
The Senior Concert Band has continually increased the standard of music played by this group of music students who range from Year 8 to Year 12. The Senior Concert Band is the Showcase LHC ensemble and has a busy performance schedule including participating annually at the Melbourne School Bands Festival.
The band also tours regularly around the state of Victoria. 2009 will see the band undertake its most ambitious tour so far; to Brisbane. The tour will involve participating in the Brisbane Schools Band Festival in August.
The Senior Concert Band is conducted by Mr Tim Veevers and rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 3.15 - 4.45 pm.
Intermediate Concert Band
The Intermediate Concert Band consists of students from Grade 6 through to Year 9. Many of the students have been learning an instrument for just one year however the ensemble includes students who are playing a second instrument.
The Intermediate Concert Band has many performances and activities each year with one of the highlights being a three day rehearsal camp in Healesville to further prepare students for the Melbourne School Bands Festival performances.
The Intermediate Concert Band is conducted by Mr Syd Jackson and rehearses on Monday afternoons from 3.15 - 4.15 pm.
top of page Veevers Junior Concert Band
The Veevers Junior Concert Band comprises students who have been learning for less than a year. Students from Grade 5 through to Year 7 come together to learn the art of ensemble playing and to enjoy creating music.
Rehearsals start just over a month after the students’ first lesson and they begin to prepare for their first ever performance. Not only do they perform as part of Veevers Junior Concert Band, they also combine with the Jackson Junior Concert Band to form a massed ensemble. As well as performing on soiree evenings as part of an ensemble, the Junior Concert Band students also present a short solo.
Not unlike the Intermediate Concert Band, the Veevers Junior Concert Band participates in multiple performances and activities each year including a most rewarding three day rehearsal camp in Healesville. This forms important preparation for the ensemble’s performance at the Melbourne School Bands Festival.
The Veevers Junior Concert Band is conducted by Mr Tim Veevers and rehearses on Monday afternoons from 3.15 - 4.15 pm.
Jackson Junior Concert Band
The Jackson Junior Concert Band is very similar to the Veevers Junior Concert Band however is comprised of students of an entire Year 7 home group.
The students nominate to participate in the Year 7 Music Enrichment Class, taking part in a selection process that involves an aural perception test.
Like the Veevers Junior Concert Band, this ensemble participates in a wide variety of performances and activities throughout the year. One highlight is the three day rehearsal camp in Healesville and a performance at the Melbourne School Bands Festival in August.
The Jackson Junior Concert Band is conducted by Mr Syd Jackson and rehearses during school time for 2 periods (90min) a week.
Senior Stage Band
The Senior Stage Band is a highlight ensemble of the Music Program. It performs a wide variety of works and is comprised of the school’s advanced music students. The group provides students with a wonderful opportunity to advance their improvisational skills. The Senior Stage Band is conducted by Mr Richard Burns and Mr Nathaniel Poynter.

Guitar Ensemble
The Guitar Ensemble is quite an active and flexible ensemble. It involves students from different year levels and encourages student input. It embraces a wide variety of performance opportunities and at times combines with other ensembles to form a unique combination of students and instruments, providing a wonderful, eclectic sound for the listener The ensemble performs a broad repertoire that is frequently arranged by their conductor.
The Guitar Ensemble is conducted by Ms Sue Haylock and rehearses during Monday lunchtimes.
Percussion Ensemble
The dynamic Percussion Ensemble is comprised of students from different year levels and experience. As well as performing from an established repertoire, it encourages students to compose their own pieces. Performances of such student-written compositions have being warmly received by audiences.
The Percussion Ensemble is conducted by Ms Sue Haylock and rehearses during Tuesday lunchtimes.
Vocal Ensemble
The Vocal Ensemble is made up of enthusiastic students who form a vibrant choir. The choir focuses on music from a wide variety of genres over the past 50 years. All College students are encouraged to participate in the choir and no formal music training is necessary. This ensemble is a highlight of school concerts and at other performances.
The Choir is conducted by Mrs Erika Turner.
